As a professional artist living in Durham, North Carolina, Betsy’s interest in creativity, nature, and the arts has taken many forms during her career--education, modern dance, choreography, writing, watercolor, costuming, and audio/video production.
For many years Betsy Blair was a performer, arts residency teacher in the public schools, studio and community arts teacher, and choreographer specializing in community and children's dance. In the second phase of her career, Betsy put her product design degree to use to create two multimedia books for dance education: Dance Songs for Young Children (pre-K through 2nd grade) and Down the Road Dances (middle school). Recently, Betsy has focused on her skills in visual art, particularly painting watercolor collage, teaching young artists, and linking art (as well as dance) with nature learning. Betsy's interest in concepts of creativity which transcend individual art forms led her to develop Issues of Creativity for Women Artists and Scientists, a graduate level seminar for the University of Arizona in Tucson. Returning to NC, she reshaped this as two semester courses for continuing education students at Meredith College in Raleigh. She now incorporates ideas from this seminar into her workshops for teacher training. |
